Looking for a powerful yet accommodating two-seater that can haul enough luggage for a three-day weekend and still thrill you behind the wheel? Take a gander at this 2001 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe.

Made in September 2000 at GM’s Bowling Green, Kentucky factory, this example was initially delivered to Walter Earl Chevrolet, Inc. in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Optional equipment installed at the factory included fog lamps; luggage shade and parcel net; memory package; Twilight Sentinel; electrochromic mirrors; lift-off roof panel; and more.

The artwork on the car’s exceptional Torch Red exterior was painted by award winning artist Chris Cruz of DeLand Florida, and is in overall excellent order. The engine bay is extremely tidy, the body-colored bumpers fit tightly and rear cargo area looks good.

Tires are new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3s, size 245/45ZR17 in front and 275/40ZR18 in rear. Each one is mounted on a factory polished aluminum wheel. The wheels are in overall very good order. This car has upgraded Eradi Speed Brakes.

Under the forward-tilting hood is GM’s LS1 V-8, a 90º OHV unit with aluminum block and heads along with sequential multi-port fuel injection. The engine bay has a lot of chrome parts since leaving the factory. Backing up the motor is a rear-mounted, electronically-controlled, four-speed automatic transmission (code 4L60-E) and optional 3.15:1 rear end. Driver convenience features include dual-zone electronic climate control; power, speed-sensitive, rack-and-pinion steering; tilt and telescope steering column; cruise control; power, four-wheel disc brakes; a limited-slip differential; power locks; power window; power sideview mirrors; remote rear hatch and fuel-filler door releases; electric rear defroster.

Safety features include dual front airbags, keyless entry, PASS-KEY II anti-theft system; anti-lock brakes; and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Inside, the car has a black interior, with leather bucket seats dressed in red piping. The interior looks mostly new, corresponding with the car’s low mileage. The thick, four-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel has a two-tone rim and is ready for a new adventure. The corresponding black carpet looks good and has Corvette floor mats. The center console and center stack look great, as does the dashboard, complete with analog gauges and a digital driver’s information center along with a passenger-mounted grab handle. A special feature is the head-up display (HUD). A factory AM/FM stereo with CD player and Bose speakers is standard.

A major change from its predecessor the C4, the C5 had a hydroformed box frame, a design that offered an improved structural platform, especially for a convertible bodystyle. To improve handling, the tran
